One Email, Multiple Twitter Accounts

Do you like this story?

I have more than one Twitter account, a couple personal related ones and @TheMarketaire that I use for this site.

For those of you who have multiple Twitter accounts, you’ve probably noticed that you’re unable to use the same email address with other accounts. If you try it, Twitter will shoot out the “Email has already been taken” error. A pain, I know.

But don’t fret, there’s an easy solution! If you’re using a Gmail or Google Apps email address then you’re in luck!

With Gmail you can add a dot (.) anywhere in the username end of the email and all emails sent to the dotted email will still end up in your Gmail inbox. For example, if I had brett@gmail.com, any email sent to br.ett@gmail.com or br.e.tt@gmail.com would still find its way to my inbox, as Gmail ignores periods in the username.

I think you know where I’m going with this, but I’ll continue on to be thorough.

Twitter considers brett@gmail.com and br.ett@gmail.com to be two separate email addresses even though they both direct email to the same Gmail inbox.

If you don’t want to use this method (for whatever reason), a second email is created automatically when you register for a Gmail account, one that uses the googlemail.com domain.

So if you have two accounts on Twitter, you can use the Gmail email with one and the googlemail email with another.

Have fun!

Thanks for the information! I opened a google account for other reasons but didnt want to direct my personal twitter acct to gmail out of sheer laziness. Now that I know I can direct all of my accounts there, I will.!! Thanks again :-)

    Hi!

The other easy alternative is to actually go to the ACCOUNTS & IMPORTS of the GMAIL SETTINGS, and have all your emails directed to ONE gmail account. I’ve got multiple Twitter accounts on separate gmails, but i’ve directed them all to just ONE gmail :)
