Now that we’re in 2013 and just about any business worth a damn has a Facebook presence, it’s important to look at audience motivations for engaging with a company’s Facebook page. When Ambassador put together their survey “why do people follow brands on Facebook?”, they aimed to do just that.
According to the survey, 70% of users that follow a brand on Facebook do so for Special Offers. Other reasons included shopping (38%), to follow brand events (38%), as well as to leave feedback (29%).
Another interesting stat is that 60% of Facebook users have recommended a brand to friends at one point. Sure, this number may make up larger brands for the most part, but as smaller businesses become increasingly engaged we will likely see some separation here. Smaller businesses also have the opportunity to get more personal. Whether it’s highlighting things going on in the place of business or putting a face to the brand through images and video.
